THE MAGIC OF STORIES

So funnily enough, the method I used to periodically escape people turned out to be the way I learned the most about them. I credit all the time my nose has spent buried in a book for my well-developed sense of empathy and my high level of emotional intelligence—two must-have traits for skillful storytelling.

Growing up, I was the only introvert in a family of rambunctious boys. I became painfully aware of my need for regular solitude at a very young age, and I quickly learned to use reading as a way to tune out the noise of a busy household.

I didn't just read books; I consumed them and lived them. If I was forced to pause while my character was dealing with a tricky dilemma, I'd have carry a sense of anxiety with me the rest of the afternoon. When a protagonist mourned the loss of a family member or friend, I'd mourn with them. If there was a celebration, a miraculous escape, or a marvelous stroke of luck in the plot, I'd feel the elation myself.

When I was old enough to travel, I began to do that voraciously as well. I've been to 36 countries in the past six years or so, and many of them solo. My strong sense of empathy and the introvert's desire to reach deeper levels of conversation drive me to seek out diverse people and their stories. I've been privileged in my travels to learn both about the universal traits that unify us as well as the unique behaviors and beliefs of different cultures around the world.

After all the stories I've read and witnessed, I've become a skilled storyteller myself. I use my well-developed sense of empathy along with careful research to understand what will get my readers to invest in my story. When I do content work for any brand, I focus on getting the audience to connect with the story first and foremost. People will explore and support what they've become invested in, which is why igniting the magic of the story behind a brand is always the first step, the bridge, the spark, the driving factor behind any content strategy. The progression goes: story first, then prospect support, then sales and success.

I'll help you uncover the story of your brand or your client's brand and share it in a way that people connect with. Contact me, here.
